Today, we decided to try another new lake.  We had such great success at Westcott, yesterday, we wanted to try another small, off the beaten path, lake/pond.  The choice today was Montana.  This lake is a small lake that fits the typical bowl pattern.  There are weeds all along the edges.  For  good ways out from the shore, it is less than 2 ft.  The bottom then shelves into about 6 feet than again down to 8 and so on.  The middle of the lake is 40 ft.  The weeds are very thick and overgrown, so I decided I would work the edges.

My new favorite bass lure lately has been a Slurppie ringworm with a 1/8 ounce jig head.  Dropping it right on the weed edges has been great for bass, and it also has produced for other species as well.  Montana proved to be no different.  The ring worm was able to hook-up with pike, largemouth, and numerous crappie.  All the fish were located in the same area.  There was a weed edge just past the boat launch that produced all these fish except for one.  It was a good day to be out on the water, and another successful day on the Memorial Day trip.

Montana Lake Largemouth Bass Oconto

This bass was small and chunky. It put up a good fight.

Montana Lake Crappie Oconto

Many people were targeting crappies, we caught this one by mistake.

Montana Lake Pike

This pike hit a plastic worm.
