Salt Creek: A Graue Mill yellow bass
0It was another typical late March day, and I had some minnows left from my previous Des Plaines trip, so I decided to hit some areas of Salt Creek. Paul and I had floated over some areas that had deeper pools and a nice gravel bar. There were also some rumors of walleyes being caught in this stretch. I had recently purchased some waiders, so I figured I would put them to use.
The temperature was in the lower 50’s, a nice spring temp. The current was at a normal level, with the water in the upper 40’s. I arrived at 4:30 pm and decided I would fish until dark. I started immediately by throwing crank baits, jig-n-plastics, and slow rolling spinners to try to spark a bite from a pike or walleye. With the water being so cold, I decided that a minnow and bobber was the way to go.
I switched over to the bobber and immediately got a hit from a yellow bass. This is one of the first I have ever caught, so I was pretty excited. I figured the action was going to be good. I fished for another hour or so, but did not have any success. As the sun went down, I began to get cold, so I called it quits until it warmed up a little further.
Fish Totals:
1 Yellow Bass
