Chute Pond: Great scenery, no fish
0It was the Sunday morning of the Columbus Day trip, so I decided to hit up Chute Pond for the first time ever. Chute pond is known for some old and rare muskies, decent pike, and excellent bass. Since I had no luck with the skis on the previous day, I decided I would go after both pike and bass.
I arrived at the launch at sunrise, after a little trouble finding the place. I immediately took off for the very eastern end. There was a bay that, according to the map, had a good amount of weeds and some good drop off’s. I figured with the colder water, this would be a warming place early in the morning, and I might see some action. I worked the shore line, and did not find many fish at all. I did have one “short” hit on a red-eye by a snake northern. I continued to work my way back to the launch working all sorts of shoreline and points. The fish just were not interested. I did see some bait fish jumping in very shallow areas of thick weeds. I was unable to stir up any fish from those locations either. It may be possible that the water was turning over. It was very dark, had very little weed growth, and had lot of floating debris.

I am still trying to figure out how to fish the fall with success. This weekend was a disappointment as far as fishing, but hopefully I will figure it out sometime soon.
