Salt Creek: A pair of sundown pike
Todd and I were looking to do some fishing today. We knew it was still early for salmon, so we put on our waders and headed to Salt Creek. We were hoping to catch some bass, pike, and/or walleye.
We arrived at a little gravel bar that I had fished many times before. Todd waded the left side of the river. This side tends to be a muddy bottom with a lot of down timber and debris. It often contains some crappies and bass. I worked the edges of the gravel bar. The gravel bar is slow sloping that heads into a deeper chute of water. We were both working a variety of crank baits.
Shortly after 8:00 pm, I was bringing my lure just on the outside of the main channel. I felt a solid tug and set the hook. The initial fight was decent with the current, but as soon as I got the fish into slack water, the snake northern quickly came in.
We both continued to work these areas into darkness. At around 8:45, I was working the an eddy, when I felt another tug. This fish felt a little bit bigger, and turned out to be. It was another one caught on a small Rapala.
Around 9, the river was getting very dark, and the fish just weren’t biting as much as we thought. We made our way through the brush and decided to call it a night.
Fish Totals:
Matt: 2 pike
Todd: 0 Fish
