Todd and I decided to do some perchin this weekend, but we were unable to get downtown in the morning, so we decided to make it a night outing.  We stopped at Henry’s picked up 3 dozen minnows and arrived at Navy Pier around 6:00 pm.  It took us a little while to find a spot as most of the pier had some ice covering.  We found an area that only had skim and used a weight on a rope to break it up.  For the first 45 minutes or so, it was pretty quiet and we were thinking about moving.  Then, at about 7:00, I saw my line begin to twitch.  I set the hook, but nothing.  Todd then immediately after pulled out a really small perch.  It must have been the power hour because until about 8:00 pm, we were getting fish pretty consistently.  We did manage a few keepers, but  at 8:30, we decided to call it a night.  The air temperature was -7C and the winds were strong from the south.  The ice was freezing quicker than we could break it apart.  It was a fun night and worth being out, but we know the better perch days are still ahead. Fish Totals: 15 or so perch with a few keepers.
