Todd and I went out for another fall salmon fishing session.  This time, instead of our traditional Dusable location, we decided to hit the pipe area in Burnham Harbor.  The recent reports stated that fish were showing up both behind McCormick Place and at the pipe.  The fall still felt like summer, however, so we were not expecting much.

We arrived at about 8, at let the full arsenal of salmon lures fly.  We worked everything from spoons to cranks to rattle traps.  After a long evening of nothing, we decided that in about 15 minutes (11:00) we would call it defeat.  No sooner than we decided Todd yelled out fish with a lot of apprehension in his voice.  He then reaffirmed it with a more confident call.  Todd was fishing the lure really slow and near the bottom.  The fish just picked it up and swam with him.  It was good he felt the slightest tap and set the hook.

The fish gave him a decent battle of 6 or 7 minutes until I was able to scoop it with the net.  We were both pumped up about the 1st salmon of the 2008 season.  It came a lot later than in past years, however, it’s always better to be late than never.  We still called it quits at around 11:00.  I was unable to hook up or get a bump.
