Salt Creek: A walleye on but nothing to show
0After yesterday’s Des Plaines River outing, I was really getting the itch to shake off the winter cobwebs and catch a fish. It was another cold spring day. The high only reached into the 40’s. There was little or no wind, so Paul and I decided we would go for a wade near Graue Mill.
We arrived there at about 5:00 pm. The water was slightly higher than normal, but still safe for some river fishing. The goal was to get some walleyes running up the river to spawn, but we would really take any fish we could get.
We worked the area around Graue Mill with jig-n-twisters. I put on a chartreuse color jig with a 3 iinch tail. We knew slow was the name of the game, as the water was still very cold. The fishing was as slow as we thought it could be. The fish did not seem on the move yet, a lot of this was probably due to our never ending winter.
The highlight of the day, was a fish I had on just past the bridge, right off the parking lot. There was a stump creating an eddy. I worked the plastic through the eddy very slowly and felt the weight of the fish. He gave a short little run, shook his head, and said goodbye. I never got to see him, and was upset, as this would have been the first fish of 2008.
Fish Totals:
Matt: 0 Fish
Paul: 0 Fish
